Sabancı University Board of Trustees has appointed Prof. Mehmet Baç as an Emeritus Faculty Member

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Baç

Professor Mehmet Baç received his PhD in Economics from Laval University, Canada, in 1990. He started his career at Laval University and joined Bilkent University in 1992. Professor Baç is a full-time faculty member at Sabancı University since February 2002; he was promoted to the rank of Professor in 2004. In recognition of his research, he was awarded the TÜBİTAK Science Award in the Social Sciences in 2008. This distinction marked the first TÜBİTAK Science Award in the field of social sciences received by a faculty member at Sabancı University. In 2012, Professor Baç was elected a full member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences.

Professor Baç served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) from 2008 to 2013. During his tenure, he played a leading role in the continued growth of the Faculty and spearheaded the establishment of several new major and minor programs. These included the International Studies undergraduate program, the Art Theory and Criticism minor program, and the Psychology undergraduate program, whose curriculum he helped design from its inception. Between 2002 and 2008, he also served as the coordinator of the Economics program at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Over a period of 24 years, Professor Baç contributed extensively to the University through his service on numerous research and administrative boards and councils at the university, institute, and faculty levels.

Professor Baç has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals. His work appears in broad-scope journals such as International Economic Review and American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, as well as in leading field journals including Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, and Journal of Public Economics. He consistently ranks among the top researchers in Turkey in the field of economics and is recognized as one of the most influential microeconomics researchers according to Scopus and SciVal metrics. His research in the field of law and economics has been published in high-impact journals. In his Emeritus position, Professor Baç will continue his research and publication activities, further contributing to the academic visibility of Sabancı University.
